A BESPOKE MOSAIC LOGO COMMISSION
Cornish Gems
A handcrafted interpretation of the Cornish Gems Ltd logo, designed as a statement artwork for the company office. The commission translated the existing identity into mosaic, whilst preserving its distintive sea-foam color palette and elegant symmetry.
FROM BRAND TO MOSAIC
The starting point was the existing Cornish Gems Logo, I created an initial concept board so the client could review the form, color and material options before fabrication began. This allowed us to agree
the precise Sea-Foam blue, the bronze accents, and the shell background before committing to the final piece.
A MATERIAL PALETTE INSPIRED BY THE COAST
Several materials were combined to give the artwork depth, luminosity and a distinctly Cornish character.
MOTHER OF PEARL
Round shell mosaic tiles create a luminous softly varied background that responds beautifully to changing light.
BISAZZA GLASS
Sea-foam blue glass tesserae were selected to closely match Cornish Gems identity.
BRONZE ACCENTS
Bronze toned Bisazza pieces defined selected edges and introduce a subtle warmth and metallic glint.

THE MAKING PROCESS
The mosaic was built by hand in the studio. Because the Bisazza glass were slightly deeper than the shell background the logo sits slightly proud of the surface. This small change in level helps the identity stand out and creates delicate shadow lines across the piece.
