Garden of Remembrance
A Reflective Garden Mosaic
Stockport, Manchester
A bespoke pebble mosaic created as a
place of remembrance and quiet reflection following 9/11
Designed for private garden in Stockport,
Manchester, the mosaic forms a permanent contemplative space within the landscape.
A bench is positioned as part of the setting inviting visitors to sit pause and reflect.
The Design
These initial design sketches explore the ideas and symbolism behind the 9/11 remembrance mosaic, including the sun, stars, birds and celestial motifs.
They also show the proposed layout and direction of the natural pebbles, carefully arranged to create movement and flow throughout the finished mosaic.

CREATING THE MOSAIC
The central sun motif, shooting star and surrounding stars were created in the
studio using a pre-cast indirect mosaic
method, allowing the individual pebbles
to be carefully positioned to form the
detailed designs.
Once completed, these sections were transported to site and installed into the garden. The remaining background was then created by hand on site, laying each pebble individually to bring the separate elements together into one continuous mosaic surface.
